IRs seeking guidance on the ever-changing world of coding and reimbursement need look no further: SIR’s Revenue Cycle Management course, held during SIR 2023, has them covered.
Led by C. Matthew Hawkins, MD, FSIR, and Ammar Sarwar, MD, FSIR, the Revenue Cycle Management course will equip IRs in a range of practice settings with strategies to minimize loss, protect their practice from payer audits and learn about IR procedure codes.
“In the current economic climate, it is critical that IR practices get paid for all reimbursable work that they do,” Drs. Hawkins and Sarwar said. “Therefore, this course is designed to teach beginners and experienced IRs and their practice managers on how to maximize revenue.”
IRs in all practice settings can benefit from attending the course, the program moderators said.
“The goal is to educate our members on how to maximize reimbursement for procedures that they perform by paying careful attention to reporting, coding, claims submission and claims reimbursement,” they said. “We will also aim to inform attendees about trends in reimbursement and policy development from government and private payers.”
From members to nonmembers to industry reps, anyone can register for the course. “Anyone who is concerned about declining reimbursement can benefit from this course,” Drs. Hawkins and Sarwar said. “Practice managers, leaders, early careers IRs will all benefit, and this course targets IRs in all practice settings: academic, hybrid, private practice, hospital-based and OBL-based.”
Topics covered will include:
- History and fundamentals of physician reimbursement
- Sites of service and impact on reimbursement: MPFS, HOPPS, IPPS
- Front-end IR revenue cycle operations: Prior authorization, financial counseling
- Mid IR revenue cycle: Documentation, coding, clean claims
- Back-end operations: Physician payment, denial and appeals
- Case examples of commonly missed revenue opportunities
- Evaluation and management (E&M) coding in IR: outpatient and inpatient
- Optimizing the use of APPs in a modern IR practice
- Coverage policy: Medicare and private payors
- Protecting your practice from audits
- CPT: IR code creation
- RBRVS: Practice expense, physician work
- Measuring and increasing revenue from IR services
- Q&A session
In addition to improving reimbursement literacy in specific practices, the course directors feel that a better understanding of the revenue cycle and reimbursement rates will empower members to better advocate for themselves alongside SIR when speaking out against congressional budget cuts.
Participants will be offered 8 CME credits and 8 Radiology Coding Certification Board continuing educational units (Radiology Certified Coder in Interventional Radiology [RCCIR] and Radiology Certified Coder [RCC]).
IRs interested in enrolling may register here. Discounted rates are available for SIR members.
