This article is part of an SIR Today series of recommendations from Phoenix-area interventional radiologists and their colleagues on their favorite restaurants, hangouts and sights to see. We thank all those who have submitted their top local picks to this series!
I don't know much about Phoenix restaurants or bars, but here are some outdoor activities people can enjoy.
- Hike Camelback Mountain: This hike is the quintessential Phoenix urban hike. It takes 2 hours if you maintain a fast pace. There are two trails that meet at the top of the mountain. One comes up from the west side (Echo) and the other from the east (Cholla). Parking at the trail heads can be limited on weekends.
- Hike Flatiron in the Superstition Mountains east of Phoenix: Give yourself all day for this hike. It takes 45 minutes to get there by car. The hike is only 5.5 miles but the elevation gain is about 2700 feet. You'll be rewarded with incredible views at the top. Don't do this by yourself ... The terrain is beautiful, but it can be tricky.
- Hike Pinnacle Peak: If you happen to be staying in North Scottsdale, this is a beautiful hike in the midst of beautiful neighborhoods. Check the park's website for hours as they change with the season.
This is the desert. It is arid and will get cold at night. Bring plenty of water and dress appropriately. Alltrails.com is a great resource for more information about any of these hikes.
