Celebrate the science of IR at today’s plenary session, held at 10:30 a.m. in plenary hall 6.
During the plenary, SIR Foundation will celebrate award-winning research.
Following the award presentation, Akhilesh K. Sista, MD, FSIR, and Suresh Vedantham, MD, FSIR, will present “From ATTRACT to C-TRACT to PE-TRACT: How three IR-led landmark trials will define venous thromboembolism care and elevate our specialty.”
PE-TRACT, an NIH-funded, IR-led trial, is positioned to shape the future of how physicians handle pulmonary embolism care. Led by Dr. Sista, the PE-TRACT Trial was designed in the footsteps of two other major IR-led trials: ATTRACT and C-TRACT. This presentation will provide an overview of these three trials and the future of venous thromboembolism therapies, as well as future opportunities for innovation and scholarly leadership.
Drs. Sista and Vedantham will be joined by panelists Yogen Kanthi, MD, Julie Mackel and Rita F. Redberg, MD, MS. All three panelists have substantial research backgrounds and experience with landmark trials. Dr. Kanthi, who focuses on DVT and PAD research, completed an NIH-funded research fellowship and was awarded the a Young Physician Scientist Award by the American Society of Clinical Investigation. Ms. Mackel is a lead reviewer for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and specializes in reviewing and providing guidance for catheter devices for the treatment of pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis. Dr. Redberg is the editor-in-chief of JAMA Internal Medicine, has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine, and worked in the office of Senator Orrin Hatch and with the Senate Judiciary Committee on FDA-related matters during her tenure as a Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellow, 2003–2006.
