The Virtual Angio Club (VAC) is inviting all Residency Essentials participants to join the Sept. 28 event.
Hosted by David Duncan, MD, and Yilun Koethe, MD, alongside moderators from the Early Career Section and Association of Program Directors in Interventional Radiology, the Residency Essentials VAC will allow residents to showcase their expertise on a national stage.
Dr. Duncan and Dr. Koethe discussed the upcoming program, and why the popular angio club format is a great fit for IRs-in-training.
How many cases will this program feature?
This Angio club will feature six cases from residents enrolled in the SIR Residency Essentials program.
What kind of topics will it cover?
All topics are welcome, especially cases related to:
- Pediatrics
- Pain
- Musculoskeletal
- Men's and women's health
- Thoracic interventions (including lung ablations)
- Interventional oncology
What value does the format of the VAC bring?
The VAC will unite IRs from across the country on a single night, providing them with a platform to exchange their cases, knowledge and outcomes. This event offers attendees the advantage of engaging in interactive discussions during the Q&A sessions following each presentation, featuring the latest insights from today's leading experts in the field.
How does the VAC promote collaboration and knowledge-sharing?
The VAC promotes collaboration and knowledge-sharing by gathering residents and attendings around the country on a single platform and showcase their work. This allows open discussions on everything from patient management to treatment techniques.
What efforts does the VAC make to foster interdisciplinary interactions among medical professionals?
Challenging cases often require a multi-disciplinary approach and discussion in terms of treatment options. This can also encourage participation of residents from other disciplines related to the case, so that IR residents can better understand the reasoning behind decisions other disciplines make. This fosters respect and future collaboration.
In what ways does this program encourage research initiatives and innovation in interventional radiology?
It is a networking opportunity where residents and attendings can interact with one another, expand their knowledge and connection, which may spark ideas or collaborations for future research initiatives and innovation.
Why do you feel this is a good opportunity for residents to submit their cases?
It’s a good opportunity for residents to showcase the interesting cases they have done with their attendings while gaining experience delivering succinct presentations. It is also an opportunity for adding to their resume/CV, not to mention award of complimentary SIR membership or Annual meeting registration.
Are there other benefits to having a case selected for presentation?
Selected presenters will have amplified exposure in the October IR Quarterly and be eligible to receive either a complimentary 2023–2024 SIR membership or registration for the SIR 2024 Annual Scientific Meeting in Salt Lake City.
