ADVERTORIAL
Together, Siemens Healthineers and Varian are pioneering sustainable breakthroughs in image-guided therapy with an ecosystem that prioritizes enhanced patient outcomes, precise procedural planning and optimized workflows.
At the core of this integrated ecosystem are three key solutions: IntelliBlate, a new microwave ablation system; CT technologies purpose-built for IR therapies; and OmniBone, a sustainable bone biopsy system.
“The future of IR lies in combining imaging and therapy,” said David Hahn, VP, Interventional Solutions Medical Affairs. “By enabling clinicians to visualize, plan and deliver treatment in one integrated ecosystem, we’re creating new possibilities for precision care.”
IntelliBlate
IntelliBlate, a next-generation microwave system, features scalability, an intuitive setup, real-time monitoring and innovative ablation capabilities, combined with myAblation Guide’s ablation planning and confirmation software. Its expanded feature set and simplistic design position IntelliBlate as the solution of choice for both routine and complex cases.
IntelliBlate integrates myAblation Guide, which provides tools for pre-procedural planning and post-procedural margin assessment, delivering real-time insights that can directly influence clinical decisions regarding needle placement and margin status post-treatment. This capability enhances both the adaptability and precision of treatments.
“Patients are benefiting from the enhanced precision and predictability that IntelliBlate brings to the table,” said Jason C. Hoffmann, MD, FSIR, interventional radiologist and associate professor with NYU Langone Health in Mineola, New York. “The system is well designed, easy to use and offers dependable, advanced technology that helps my team provide safe, efficient, reliable and superior ablation outcomes to our patients. While the system’s interface is very practical and self-explanatory, Varian’s clinical support team is clearly committed to optimal training of physicians and staff, consistently demonstrating a deep dedication to partnering with clinical teams to provide optimal patient outcomes and access to this innovative technology.”
IntelliBlate was developed with input from leading physicians to address clinical demands in an evolving landscape that increasingly calls for greater personalization and precision. Early adopters have highlighted IntelliBlate’s enhanced performance and usability as standout features. They say this can be attributed to its innovative design, including the Ximitry Probe Assembly, which provides greater precision and control during therapy delivery. Real-time temperature monitoring, controlled wavelength and symmetrical energy deposition simplify full-coverage planning while offering higher predictability with 3D thermal margin control for healthy tissue sparing. These advanced capabilities enable clinicians to deliver effective and precise treatment while prioritizing patient safety and outcomes.
CT solutions for needle guidance
Siemens Healthineers has developed cutting-edge CT technologies that play a pivotal role in guiding IR procedures—and evolving IR techniques require tools purpose-built for innovative therapies. One such tool is the CT scanner SOMATOM X.cite, which when paired with the myNeedle Companion laser guidance can ensure enhanced needle placement accuracy, even in challenging cases requiring double-angled access paths.
myNeedle Companion is both modular and scalable. It utilizes an AI-based needle detection algorithm, 3D volume registration and an image–fusion display to improve needle path planning. In addition, the in-room controls mean that physicians can choose to utilize the technology with or without an assistant.
“My Needle Guide on the SOMATOM X.cite really has changed my approach,” said David L. Lacey, MD, an interventional radiologist with UnityPoint Health. “With the new laser guidance system from Siemens, it’s now possible, essentially, to do any angulation with no extra time. The need for CT and the accurate guidance and volumetric guidance that you can get with the X.cite system really makes treatment more accurate, and we have better outcomes with it.”
Additional innovations such as the ISOLIS cryoablation probes and the Ximitry microwave ablation probes further enhance CT-guided therapies, increasing safety, efficacy and efficiency.
OmniBone
The new OmniBone bone biopsy kit is forging new paths as part of Varian and Siemens Healthineers’ commitment to musculoskeletal (MSK) interventions. Bone Biopsy and Access is a critical platform technology, and OmniBone makes bone lesion and bone marrow biopsy more accessible than ever with features like sharp needle tip designs and extended shelf life. OmniBone’s rechargeable design sets a new standard for sustainability while ensuring consistent performance in every case. The sharp needles are designed to access hard bone, and the power driver features true-variable speed and directional spin control to streamline procedures, ensuring precision even in the most challenging cases. This precision allows clinicians to consistently extract large, intact specimens, thereby improving diagnostic outcomes.
Looking ahead, Varian and Siemens Healthineers plan to evolve the platform to integrate software-driven clinical guidance and confirmation capabilities. This evolution will enhance procedural precision and broaden its utility across MSK interventions. Additionally, Varian is committed to building a comprehensive portfolio that addresses the full spectrum of clinician needs, from bone augmentation to ablation and beyond.
The OmniBone system expands the horizons for interventional oncology interventions, combining user control with patient comfort and reliability to provide a long-lasting system that meets physicians’ needs.
Guiding the future of IR
Siemens Healthineers and Varian are more than providers of medical devices—they are partners in building a better future for IR. From the first touchpoint in imaging to the final therapeutic outcome, their integrated ecosystem represents a leap forward in delivering intelligent, impactful care.
